Sensei Ken Harte
Sensei Ken Harte began his training in the martial arts over 30 years
ago with Professor George Kirby, Kudan in Ju-Jitsu. Sensei Harte
currently holds the rank of Godan (5th degree) in Ju-Jitsu and is Head
Judo / Ju-Jitsu instructor at Santa Clarita Ju-Jitsu
in Santa Clarita, California. Ken Harte currently trains and travels
teaching seminars to other law enforcement agencies, Probation Departments
and schools all around the world with well-respected martial artists
such as Professor Gene LeBell, Hachidan and Sensei Gokor Chivichyan,
Rokudan. In addition to his rank in Ju-Jitsu, Sensei Harte is
a Certified Instructor under the Gene LeBell Grappling World, USMA,
USJA, AJA and also holds the rank of Yodan (4th degree) in Judo as well
as a Shodan (1st degree) in Shotokan Karate. These combined philosophies
help him create a very unique style. In 1993, Sensei Harte was appointed
“Advisor” to the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD)
Civilian Martial Art Advisory Panel (CMAAP), where he is responsible
for providing critique, demonstration, and instruction to insure the
safety and skill of LAPD utilized martial art techniques. He is
also a member of the CMAAP membership subcommittee, where he plays an
integral role in the decision-making of the police department.
Sensei Harte appears in numerous magazine publications, training videos,
and motion pictures. His dedication to his students and the greater
martial arts community as a whole is evident from his countless hours
of training and instruction. Through Sensei Ken Harte’s leadership
and creativity the production of Camp Budo was formed. Camp Budo offers
an opportunity for students to learn under one roof from some of the
finest instructors in a wide variety of martial arts. The implementation
of Camp Budo, along with his open and friendly teaching style has taken
Sensei Harte toward his goal of creating the belief that all the martial
ways can benefit not only each other within the martial arts community
but all mankind.
Sensei Carmen
Sensei Carmen began her studies in the Martial Arts in 1989
under the instruction of Sensei Ken Harte in Ju-Jitsu. Through her many
years of training she also has studied under the legendary World
Champions and Black Belt Hall of Fame Members, Professor Gene LeBell
and Sensei Gokor Chivichyan.
In 1994 Sensei Carmen became one of the assistant instructors
at the Budoshin Ju-Jitsu Dojo in Burbank, CA for Professor George Kirby
and Sensei Ken Harte. In 1996 she moved to Santa Clarita, CA to
instruct at the American Hapkido & Ju-Jitsu Academy (AHJA). At AHJA
not only did she teach Martial Arts to men, women and children of all
ages, but she helped coordinate the dojo’s (schools) activities
and all its special events, including tournaments and seminars. She also was the assistant Executive Coordinator of Camp Budo, a mixed Martial
Arts symposium that is held at the Los Angeles Police Academy.
Sensei Carmen is a certified instructor and currently holds the
rank of Nidan (2nd degree) in Ju-Jitsu and a Shodan (1st degree) in
Judo. Sensei Carmen is currently teaching Ju-Jitsu and mixed Martial
arts in Santa Clarita, CA.
During her training Sensei Carmen has competed in many different
styles of Martial Art tournaments such as Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Karate,
and has taken numerous championship titles. She has accomplished many
things in her studies.
As a female in the Martial Arts industry she has focused strongly
on the importance of self-defense for women and has trained extensively
in the Los Angeles Police Departments Martial Arts Curriculum. She is
also certified in the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program, sponsored
by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Her strong sense of awareness and drive to learn to defend herself
has not only helped her in her own life but is now enriching and challenging
others in theirs.
